Job description

I am currently seeking an experienced Motor Mechanic Instructor for (SEMH) school in South East London to start immediately. My client is seeking a qualified Motor Mechanic Instructor

Key Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher - QTS/QTLS/CTLLS/PTLLS/DTLLS/Other recognised Teaching Certificates
  • SEMH/SEBD experience
  • Team-teach trained
  • Be able to deliver across all phases
  • Current DBS
  • Be available to interview immediately

Overview of the job

This is a teaching position requiring full time employment working alongside school staff. Hours are 8:30am-4:00pm MWF 8:30am-4:30pm TTH

Summary

The job holder will be responsible for instructing and training learners by building effective, appropriate and supportive relationships through managing them in a proactive manner and promoting the school behaviour expectations and learning entitlement. Contribute to individual learner planning. Applies safer teaching practices and complies with national and local standards. Responsible for high level of safety, productivity, good order and hygiene within workshops areas.

Responsibilities, Activities and Duties

The job holder will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities and duties

  • Deliver training to learners in Motor Mechanics to cover both the establishment's needs and aspirations in working towards gaining recognised accreditations
  • Induct learners to the workshop/area of work and train them in aspects such as Health and Safety, Control of Substance Hazardous to Health (COSHH), machinery and tools usage
  • Provide support for learners where required; tailor learning and training requirements to individual needs
  • Maintain and update learner records including their Individual Learning Plan accordingly
  • Assess and evaluate skills of learners including BTEC Vocational Qualification levels 1 and 2 and other relevant recognised qualifications
  • Liaise with Vocational Manager/ Assistant Principal where required
  • Undertake the registration, supervision, monitoring, assessment and accreditation of learners in accordance with requirements
  • Maintain quality standards and contribute towards internal and external verification as required
  • Set learning aims and learning goals, reviewing and providing feedback on learner progress
  • Provides support and advice on career opportunities for area of work Undertake other instructor tasks including:
  • Supervise and maintain discipline of learners receiving training, education or work experience. Responsible for performance, motivation, behaviour, appraisal and development of learners
  • Use SIM when required and contribute to behaviour recording and reporting
  • Carry out learner searches on their entry and exit of the training room/ workshop when necessary
  • Log any tool / equipment faults, which require maintenance and repair of tools.
  • Conduct risk and health and safety assessments on consumables under Safer Custody guidelines
  • Order materials and estimate usage in order to meet work learning targets
  • Complete administration activities to support the smooth running of the workshop
  • Locate individual learners literacy and numeracy levels and support them in developing their skills further
  • Advise and assist learners in seeking appropriate and relevant employment opportunities
  • Supervise, manage learners safely and securely whilst carrying out all activities
  • Understand, apply and conform to school policies and proceedures
  • Establish, develop and maintain professional relationships with learners and staff
  • Attend and contribute to relevant meetings as required

Desired Skills/Qualifications/Accreditation/Registration

Staff can work towards the relevant vocational qualification such as Performing Engineering Operations in (i) Assembling Mechanical Components and (ii) Wiring electrical equipment and circuits.

Manual handling training for which they have a City and Guilds qualification. Be able to demonstrate at least 2 years relevant vocational experience in the Motor Mechanics A basic knowledge of how a car works, including 4 stroke, diesel engines and braking systems

Is competent in technical drawing.

Knowledge of accreditation process including the BTEC Qualification up to level 3.
