Remedy Education is working in close partnership with an Outstanding SEN school in Havering, Essex who are currently recruiting for dedicated and pro-active Support Assistants to join their team.

This is a role supporting PMLD to start as soon as possible. The successful applicant will be working with small classes supporting children with PMLD and other complex cognitive difficulties.

All pupils at the school have complex learning and medical needs, most are wheelchair bound and are unable to communicate with the outside world - this means that a background in social care or nursing and some school-based TA experience will be a huge advantage.

You will be expected to support them with Hoisting, Manual Handling Needs and Personal Care (feeding, changing and toileting). There will be comprehensive on the job training and lots of support both through our client schools (induction training, PECS, Makaton and Team Teach). You will be working with students aged between 5 - 19, all of whom have statements of Special Education Needs.

Most of the children you will be working with have very limited communication skills, and some are completely non-verbal. You will be supporting a class alongside a team of fellow LSAs and the class teacher.

The personal care duties will include:

• PEG feeding
• Changing the students
• Feeding orally
• Helping students to brush their teeth

Ideally, you will have the following experience:

• PMLD experience
• LSA or care experience
• SEND experience
• Experience in or willing to do personal care and manual handling
