Housing Allocations Team Manger.

Remedy Recruitment are currently working in partnership with a local authority within London and are currently seeking an Experienced Housing Allocations Manger to work within a team. This a fast pace exciting role that sits within the Housing Needs.

Job Purpose -

Leading a small team, you will have strategic and operational responsibility for managing the letting of properties and initiatives to make best use of our housing stock and also some administrative functions. This includes leading negotiations on local lettings policies for new schemes, overseeing initiatives to assist overcrowded households and encourage under-occupiers to move home as well as contribution to policy development.

We are looking for someone who can clearly demonstrate detailed understanding of current challenges in the social housing sector and considerable knowledge and experience of allocations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities.

Responsible for the efficient day-to-day operation of the team, providing daily supervision, training, support and advice to staff to ensure an effective and service. Operate in a positive, customer focused manner and ensure this is mirrored by staff in the Team.

  • Involvement in the recruitment of new staff and development of existing team members.
  • Running seminars and workshops in relation to the service. Facilitating training for internal and external staff and partner organisations.
  • In conjunction with the Housing Registration and Allocations Group Manager set and monitor the team targets and objectives; including the annual Lettings Plan. Identifying solutions and taking appropriate action when performance standards are not being met.
  • Ensure that statistics, records and files relating to the Section's activities are accurate and up to date and that IT systems are used effectively and accurately and all staff are trained and proficient in their use.
  • Carry out a sample check of work of the Allocations staff for accuracy and consistency and ensure that work of the Section is adequately covered at all times.
  • To keep fully abreast of changes in legislation, Government and Council policy and Best Practice which affect the principles and methods of work within the Section recommending changes to procedures, policy and practice.
  • Attend meetings and liaise with Registered Providers, Local Authorities and other housing/associated agencies as required.
  • Ensure that consideration is given to a clients ability to access storage and removals; in line with standard procedure and the Council's financial regulations identify when this can be provided and where appropriate ensure that provision for payments to be made by the client are completed.
  • Carry out risk assessments / home visits as required.
  • Write and present good quality reports on aspects of the day-to-day work of the Section or on individual cases and give evidence in Court as and when required.
  • Have full regard for the individual policies of and service level agreements held with Registered Providers, Temporary Providers and Private Landlords and any agreement that may have been entered into with them and ensure that, where appropriate, they are adhered to.
  • Ensure effective use of long term housing, making sure that long term placements are occupied and that nominations are made promptly in order to minimise the use and cost of nightly paid placements.
